Celebrated artist and author Landon L. Rogers wrapped up his rock and roll infused summer with a surprise release, What Kind of God Are You Looking For? The new song features heavy guitars, rolling drums and toms and thought-provoking lyrics.
The video, which was released alongside the single, features images of icons and religious effigies and draws the question to the viewer, are you looking for an effigy or are you looking for something more?
Expected to draw both praise and ire, Landon is quoted as saying, “Sometimes art inspires us, sometimes art offends us and sometimes it does both, but those evocations are not my aim. My aim was exegesis, catharsis, I’m genuine in my journey and in my lyrics, I’m not goading an audience, I’m questioning myself. I want to know, internally, is my God an effigy, or is he a living thing? Is he of my own making, or does he exist outside my consciousness?”
Pressed further he said this;
What Kind of God Are You Looking For? Is explicitly about this one thing, are you looking for a living God, a real God, or are you content with the effigy of God that is placated by organized religion, static and stationary and exegeted from a text? Do you want a living God, or a dead God? I believe in a living God. It’s complicated, it’s nuanced, but I believe in him…..and that’s the theme of the song, when I say, “you can only find what you’re looking for”, if you’re looking for a living God then I believe that is exactly what you will find, but if you’re looking for a dead god, a god of man’s making, in man’s image, then make no mistake, that is exactly what you will find and there’s one on every street corner with his hands out asking for your devotion and your money. So be careful what kind of God you’re looking for, because sooner or later you’re going to find him.
